What goes through your mind when you hear, "triangular shaped cabin with 715 square feet on the main floor"?
Our clients for this project were wanting to have a new cabin custom designed and built on a small lot on the shoreline of Sylvan Lake; a piece of land that has a run-down cabin on it, having been passed down through the generations. This project was exciting to us because of the unique challenges it posed. Due to current land use bylaws and considering the setbacks of the lot, the maximum square footage we could have for this new build was going to be 715 square feet on the main floor, and in order to be able to attain that size, it was going to have to be a triangular floor plan. A second floor and third level loft space helped us create more square footage. We needed space for extended family, ranging from young children to elderly grandparents. We needed to accommodate limited mobility of some family members, and the height of another family member who stood at a whopping 6'-8"! Efficient lake access and views that would not infringe on neighbours' privacy, as well as exterior materials that would stand up to the harsh winds and weather of the location were other considerations. How did we design a cabin to meet all of these needs and requirements? See the images below.
Unfortunately, due to the clients' personal family events, this cabin has not been built.
