This family-run business initially approached us to select finishes to update the existing funeral home and to design some custom millwork for their kitchen and for a preparation room. What started out as s simple specification for new flooring, paint, millwork, and lighting turned into a much larger scope, unfortunately due to the discovery of some severe water damage to the building envelope. We matched the client up with a trusted and efficient structural engineer who was able to specify a detail to rectify the problem and the necessary reparations were done almost immediately. Since the exterior of the building became part of the project scope, including new stucco work, the client opted for a new paint colour for the exterior of the building which better reflects the interior spaces and is more modern and more noticeable from 17th Avenue SE.
Currently, we are still working with this client, the City of Calgary, and the 17th Ave BRZ in order to design, plan, and develop a new parking lot that encompasses a design aesthetic that parallels the 17th Ave BRT development project, and to create more functional parking and a gathering space for congregations before and after services held at Pierson's.
